First Post - Finding Bliss in the Moment

I've known for ages that I needed to do this; create a blog and commit to regularly posting my thoughts, experiences, questions, wonderings and bliss. Bliss is something that we need to find in the moment, quickly grabbing it and holding it to our hearts.

Like all teachers, like all principals, like all workers of today I work hard - long hours, curly problems, roller coaster living - and I love it.
From this I have found my bliss in the moments: in the minutes I check my Twitter feed, the minutes I play with the tamariki at break, the smile on the face of a child as they "get it", the smile on the face of a teacher as they look up from their work, the sun coming up as I drive to work or after I get there and yes I could go on and on.

Earlier this year I left a Board meeting to make the fifty minute journey home and drove into a large puddle, the sort of puddle that grabs your car and drags it deeper until it stops and you can't get out because the water is above the bottom of your door. I sat in the car for over a hour watching the water get ever higher, over the passenger seat and just about to the top of the pedals on my side.
All I could think through the whole experience was, "aren't people kind". At no time did I worry about the situation, that was too big for me to comprehend, but the board member who stayed with me, the people who stopped to help, my board chair who arrived to help and the school neighbour who did the same thing they were all so kind and I was truly grateful.
When I got out I managed to save my shoes, bliss! I was taken back to my chair's home to wait for the long suffering husband, bliss! I hung out with him, his wife and their children who were very excited I was there, bliss! Mike gave me a very large glass of his homemade damson liqueur, bliss! The long suffering husband arrived to take me home, bliss!

The car was written off three days later, but the lady at the insurance company was lovely and let me cry as I explained my first accident, bliss! We bought a brand new car, bliss! Winger Hamilton gave me a wee white car to use for ten days until our car was ready, bliss! Winger hamilton paid my speed camera fine, bliss!
Bliss, it's in the moment and how we choose to see the world and its happenings. I find my bliss everywhere, you can too.
